Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride, Inc. produced its first annual Pride Celebration in June of 1984. The Board of Directors felt that with such a large local lesbian & gay population, there was a need to increase awareness and to promote pride and a greater sense of self-worth within the community. The Board’s mission was to facilitate cooperation, mutual respect and understanding between the lesbian & gay community and the greater community of Long Beach.

At first money to meet the city’s exorbitant fees was limited and the successes of the early Gay Pride Celebrations were dependent upon numerous fundraisers and the generosity of many Long Beach area business owners. After producing only two parades and festivals, Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride, Inc. began making outright grants to other non-profit organizations. A formal Grants & Scholarships program was established, whereas funds are donated to other non-profit organizations and colleges designated by festival and parade volunteers.

Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride, Inc. a year-round operation, maintains permanent office space. employs 1 full time staff and continues the tradition of giving thousands of dollars back to the community each year. Over the past 31 years Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride, Inc. has grown to become a large philanthropic organization and has gifted more than one million dollars back into the community in grants & scholarships, participates and contributes to several events & organizations in the region.

Long Beach Pride Festival has become the 2nd largest revenue generating event for the City of Long Beach. Pride Festival, now attracts over 80,000 participants over the 2-day event.

The Long Beach Pride Festival is inclusive and strives to promote an environment that is free from prejudice and bias.
