Reel Queer Film Series - The Death & Life of Marsha P. Johnson

The Reel Queer Film Series at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center presents a free screening of The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson on June 13th at 6:30pm. A talkback and dessert reception will follow.

Marsha P. Johnson, a transgender activist who was active in the Stonewall Uprising, was found dead in the Hudson in 1992; the police labeled her death a suicide, but friends suspected she was murdered. As she fights the tide of violence against trans women, activist Victoria Cruz probes the suspicious 1992 death of her friend Marsha P. Johnson.

Marsha P. Johnson (August 24, 1945 – July 6, 1992) was an American drag queen, sex worker, and gay liberation activist. Marsha P. Johnson experienced and fought against hardships experienced by trans people and felt that those who wanted nothing more than to be their selves deserved support from the growing LGBT community in New York. Along with fellow transgender activist Sylvia Rivera, Marsha founded the Street Transvestite (now Transgender) Action Revolutionaries (STAR) to help others out there facing the struggles of an unaccepting society.
