Baltic Pride is a joint effort of cooperation between the three major LGBT* organisations for the three countries involved: Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. It began in 2009 and is a week-long cultural LGBT* festival rotating each year between the cities of Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn. The involvement of the three major LGBT* organizations in the Baltic States within this cooperative framework was grounded in the need of addressing the challenging situation of LGBT* human rights in the Baltic region through increased public visibility of the local LGBT* communities.
This year (2019) Baltic Pride will be organised by LGL, the only national LGBT* rights organisation in Lithuania and one of the most mature civil society organisations in the country. It is a national nonprofit, nongovernmental organisation uniting homosexual, bisexual and transgender persons.
