Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)’s third State of the Region Annual Awards presented by Memorial Healthcare System is set to take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, at Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa (3030 Holiday Drive). WPLG Local 10 Anchor Jacey Birch will host this prominent event organized by the Broward MPO and local partners. This annual ceremony celebrates the impact of the MPO’s significant role to plan and direct transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the region and honors those who advocate for smart planning and connectivity. This year’s distinguished honorees are Dr. George L. Hanbury II (Lifetime Achievement Award), Rufus James (Champion Award), Lori Baer (Community Impact Award), and Alan Hooper (Visionary Award).

Previous Broward MPO State of the Region Awards honorees include governmental and public policy law attorney and lobbyist George Platt, Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance VP Gail Bulfin, T.Y. Lin’s International Rail and Transit Line of Business Director Joseph Yesbeck, regional government officials and power couple policy makers Beverly and Levoyd Williams, former Hollywood Commissioner and past Broward MPO board chair Richard Blattner, Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO), Fort Lauderdale Chapter, Florida House of Representatives member Christine Hunschofsky [D-96] and Deputy City Manager Sheila Rose.

The event is presented by Memorial Healthcare System and is supported by Benesch and WSP USA.
