Edinburgh Frontrunners – Wednesday Evening Run

Time: 6.50pm. Please note many of our routes have limited lighting at night. While this is less of a problem during summer, wearing high-visibility clothing is never a bad idea year-round.

What: Run plus dinner/social.

Where: Royal Commonwealth Pool, 21 Dalkeith Rd, EH16 5BB

Routes: Gentle walk-jog options, plus 6k, 8k and 10k distances for more advanced runners with variations around Holyrood Park, Arthur’s Seat, and along Braid Burn. The nearby Meadows is also available as a less hilly option. Click on the links below to see the route maps (all routes are “-ish” distances):

• 6k (Queen’s Drive loop, hilly)

• 6k (via Royal Park Terrace, less hilly)

• 8k (via Duddingston, less hilly)

• 8k (via Meadowfield and Queen’s Drive, quite hilly)

• 10k (via Duddingston)

• 10k (via Hermitage of Braid, summer only)

Cost: There is no per-run charge. If you enjoy our club and would like to continue running with us, after three visits we will ask you to buy a membership (just £15 per year, £5 student/unwaged rate).

Changing and Showers: You may use the changing and shower facilities at the Commie for £1.70 (just ask the reception staff for “a shower”). The lockers in the change room are free, but require a £1 coin as a deposit.

We use the men’s and women’s gym changing rooms downstairs, which have cubicled showers and communal changing, and for gender neutral changing there are a few options, so please use the facilities you feel most comfortable with.

For gender neutral changing: you’re welcome to change in the poolside changing village, which is gender neutral throughout and has open showers and cubicled changing, a smaller number of cubicled showers with changing in the same space, and 5 accessible showers with changing in the same space. We also have club access to a separate gender neutral changing room: this is key access only (you’ll need to ask for the key when paying for your shower) so it’s just EFR, but it’s a large-ish room with open showers – so bear that in mind.

To be an Edinburgh Frontrunner does NOT mean you have to run  to take part.

EFR encourages their members to MOVE around this great city any way they want to. We have seen a growing number of members choosing to take part by walking. Most go for a comfortable stroll around the Meadows or Holyrood Park, while the more adventurous have taken to exploring the hidden alleys and staircases of Old Town (see the many ‘Stair Stompers’ events on our Facebook page).

So if you’re interested in a 45-60 minute walk with us, don’t let all this talk of training put you off. We’re always looking for routes and new places to go – why not share where YOUR favourite walk is? We are ALL Edinburgh Frontrunners and we’d love for you to join us no matter how you like to move.

• Wed evenings, 6:50 for a 7pm start, Royal Commonwealth Pool   (21 Dalkeith Rd, Edinburgh EH16 5BB)

• Sat mornings, 9:50 for a 10am start, Glenogle Swim Centre         (Glenogle Road, Edinburgh, EH3 5JB) *lower entrance*

Please wear comfortable walking-wear, keeping in mind the weather and time of year.
